My Journey into Dream Exploration
Lucid dreaming has long fascinated those of us seeking a deeper connection with our inner world. It offers a bridge between the subconscious and conscious mind, allowing us to tap into hidden wisdom and creativity. Under the guidance of Dr. Clare Johnson, the first person to write a PhD on lucid dreaming as a creative tool, I’ve embarked on a journey to explore my dreams more fully. Her teachings blend creativity, healing, and self-discovery, showing us that dreams are not just nighttime stories but potent symbols and messengers. (I’m taking a 21 day course and I’’m only on day 5!!)
Becoming the Dream
Dr. Johnson encourages us to become our dreams, stepping into the deepest parts of ourselves. This technique, rooted in Gestalt therapy, invites us to imagine that we are the objects, people, or even the landscapes within our dreams. By embodying these elements, we gain new perspectives on what they represent and how they relate to our personal growth and self-love. After all, each figure, object, or element in the dream is a part of us.
I’ve been reflecting on how this approach could also assist in manifesting my waking dreams. By understanding and interacting with the symbols that show up at night, I feel I can tap into a higher level of creativity and intention to bring my deepest desires into reality.
An Example from My Dream Journal
Recently, I found myself in a blue cab on a New York street, greeted by Sherman, an elder from my childhood who has long since passed. The strongest emotion in the dream was hearing his voice and feeling his presence. Reflecting on this dream, I see the cab as a symbol of transition, arriving right after my birthday—a moment I’ve dedicated to new beginnings. Sherman’s presence, whether as a visit from the other side or a symbol, felt like a guiding hand through this next phase.
Using Dr. Johnson’s “Become the Dream” technique, I might step into the shoes of the cab or even the broken glass that appeared later in the dream. What messages might these elements hold for me? How can they guide me to more clarity in manifesting my goals, both in the dream world and beyond?
Dream Play and Creative Flow
As I continue this exploration, I’ve fallen in love with my dream journal. Each entry is a treasure trove of insights waiting to be uncovered and explored. The practice of lucid dreaming has opened new doors for me—not just in terms of dreamwork, but also as a tool for manifestation. Dreams serve as a gateway to creativity, personal healing, and deeper self-awareness.
I believe this technique may truly assist me in manifesting my dreams—quite literally. By tapping into my subconscious wisdom and aligning it with my conscious goals, I feel more empowered to bring my dreams to life in both worlds.
If you’ve ever been curious about your own dreams, consider starting a journal. Pay attention to recurring symbols, and let your dreams guide you. Who knows? The wisdom you’ve been seeking might have been visiting you every night.
